Kooperation / Co-operation – digitale Ausgabe zum Tagungsband des 18. Internationalen Rechtsinformatik Symposions IRIS 2015.
Dear Reader,
Also this year, the proceedings of the International Legal Informatics Symposium IRIS are not only published as a book, but also digitally, in form of this special edition of Jusletter IT. The general theme of this year’s symposium, which is already the 18th, is «co-operation». This puts a very important but subtle development in the legal system into the focus. In the knowledge society the state is a very important regulator in the legal system, but far from being the only one. Civil society is increasingly taking things into its own hand or would at least want to participate substantially.
Democratic legal systems require the co-operation between the people (from which the law emanates), the stakeholders, the government and also the providers of legal services. The information and knowledge society with its pursuit of digital fundamental rights requires from jurists a fundamental rethinking: Higher efficiency and lower costs are an important aim of the jurisprudence in the 21st century. This development is subtle but sustainable and legal informatics is at its core, because the knowledge network is changing significantly.
This development leads towards the use of as many sources of knowledge as possible, increasing the importance of research, e-discovery and (semi)automatic analysis of the sources. Thereby the legal system becomes more effective and more efficient as well. The future of jurists depends on how they meet this challenge.
As usual this special edition of Jusletter IT on IRIS 2015 comprises new scientific findings as well as contributions on practical problems and practical applications of legal informatics, mainly from the following fields:
